Lou Gehrig's Neuron

“This neuron tattoo was done a few months ago. When I was 18, my dad passed away from Lou Gehrig’s, which is a disease of motor neurons that innervate muscles. His battle with neurodegeneration helped me decide on a career in medical research, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Neuroscience.”–Lindsay

  1. Getting closer to some answers.

DNA research on Degenerative Myelopathy in dogs has identified a possible canine model for at least one form of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s)in humans, with further study in progress which may some day aid in treatment options.

Genome-wide association analysis reveals a SOD1 mutation in canine degenerative myelopathy that resembles amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Nice tat BTW. Hope your studies have been going well.

  2. Beautiful. I lost my mom to Lou Gehrig’s when I was 21, her brother the year I was born, and her grandmother before that. If anyone can find a cure….it’ll be you.

  3. I love this! When i was about 16 my dad was diagnosed with ALS and died only a year later. I’ve been looking for a way to represent his struggle and this is perfect. thank you for sharing.
